WHAT IS ART HISTORY LITE?

What is ART HISTORY LITE??

We created it as a way to introduce art & art history to everyone . We use straight forward language to focus and inform on artists and art movements (past and present) as well as galleries,  exhibitions and books plus reflect on the ever changing art world. We produce books, reviews and podcasts (to come in 2025) and try to make them jargon free. We encourage your input and feedback – please click on the button below.

Please also use the button to buy the website’s featured artwork by stuartcoxart (under the ‘Shop’ menu tab). Make a note of the artwork number and fill in the order form that appears when you click.

A great book if you want a basic introduction to art. We don’t get taught much about this in schools. It makes me feel like I want to dig a bit deeper on certain artists.

The author in this book provides an insight into different styles of art from various artists from 1500s to current. Also it explores the history of The National Gallery, London and The Louvre Museum, Paris. It is very easy to read for all age groups and should provoke further interest in art and artist’s expressionist styles. I will certainly be looking for these styles when I next visit art galleries and museums. Highly recommended for children and adults who sometimes look bored stiff when visiting art galleries. It makes viewing art interesting and satisfying.

I love this book and I am usually a reluctant reader! I read it from cover to cover and felt really inspired to learn more. It is written in an easy to read style and the format makes it perfect to dip into. The author has written an introductory section sharing his love of art and his story which led him to art later in life. This book is more than highly recommended by me to all ages

I loved this little book! It is a great ‘hors d’oeurve’ of art and artists. An easy book to dip into. Written in an easily digestible way. Useful to learn enough to pique one’s interest to then delve further.

What a great little book! So much information but then again not too much to bamboozle you. And covering artists, genres and galleries too. I love the random nature of the content and how you cannot predict the next chapter, all the time keeping you interested. It certainly encourages the desire to further dive. I look forward to the next in the series.

This is an excellent book which gives the reader an interesting insight into some of the most famous artists and what they were trying to achieve with their paintings. It covers artists from historical and contemporary periods of time and how they also fit into different art movements. This is a book for all age groups and gives the reader an excellent background knowledge of the artistic world

I enjoyed the book although I only know a little about art history. There were several artists I’d heard of and now I know more about them I’m tempted to read further. What I didn’t realise was how tied up art history is in the social history of the time which is very interesting!
